This past summer six Lang undergraduates ( http://www.newschool.edu/lang) received financial support and mentoring to participate in research and internship experiences with a nonprofit or government agency as a means to explore their academic, personal, and professional interests in the area of social justice. The fellows will provide short presentations on their summer learning experiences.

Sarah Giffin is a senior studying Psychology and Theater at Lang and Drama Therapy through The New School for Public Engagement. She is a longtime advocate of using the arts in social justice and civic engagement. Her relationship with CESJ began with a project in which students constructed an interactive arts installation on campus to encourage student accountability to racial privilege. She is an artist-activist with The Forum Project's Performance Troupe. she brings the Theatre of the Oppressed techniques back to campus through her work with Social Justice Initiatives, the Peer Health Advocates, and other student organizations. This summer she was placed with Groundswell, an organization dedicated to bringing together youth, artists, and community stakeholders in the creation of socially conscious public art work. As a communications Intern she engaged in media-based storytelling with young artists, whose projects dealt with Hurricane Sandy, traffic safety, community organizing, criminal and economic injustice, and community empowerment.
